What Makes a sport extreme? Is it danger? Thrills? Gear? The name?

What makes a sport into an extreme sport? Do risk, thrills, and a name add up to make something into an extreme sport?

None of these make a sport extreme, you can ski or you can extreme ski. The key to extreme is in the limits. When you push your own limits, when you do something you have never done before, then you are being extreme. Everyone has different limits, if you are willing to test your boundaries and go beyond you limits, then extreme sports are for you.

Almost any sport can become an extreme sport, but there is more to it than simply making a sport more dangerous. Always wear the correct saftey gear for your chosen sport, there is nothing cool about killing or badly injuring yourself because you wouldn’t wear your gear.

To make your sport extreme, first learn all of the basics, read books, interviews, watch events, or take lessons.

Now that you know where to start (you can skate well, ride a bike, stay on a board) you can begin to go extreme. Find your limits, how fast can you go, what tricks can you do? You need to know where your limits are before you can go past them. When you find things you can’t do, then you’ve foung a limit. The key to this part is finding where you fail.

Now keep trying until you no longer fail at that point.

Try something else (higher tougher rock, steeper hill, harder stunts).

The edge of your ability is where a sport becomes extreme.

Everything your reglular lasagne has, but without the meat!
8 oz. lasagna noodles
2 cups Morningstar Farms recipe crumbles
1 1/2 cartons cottage cheese
1 jar spaghetti sauce
16 oz. shredded cheese

Cook noodles according to package directions, drain, and separate noodles. In large saucepan, pour in sauce and recipe crumbles. Bring to boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes; take off heat.

Layer noodles in either a 9-inch square pan, or a 9 X 13 inch rectangular pan. Spread cottage cheese on noodles, sprinkle various Italian seasonings on cottage cheese, if desired. Pour recipe crumble/sauce mixture on top of cottage cheese. Layer cheese on top, then continue layering until supplies are depleted. Sprinkle cheese on very top.

Bake in 400 degree oven for 35-40 minutes until cheese is golden and lasagna is bubbling. Cool for 5-15 minutes, then cut into squares and serve. Square pan yields 9 servings; rectangular will yield 12 servings.

For the vegan reader, just substitute soy cheese for the dairy cheese.

I’m often times convinced that the FIA’s credo for F1 is “Destroying the sport, one circuit at a time.”

We already have total garbage on the F1 calendar. Abominations like France, Hungary and Spain. Well, chalk up another victim. Yes folks, another circuit has fallen prey to the butchers knife.

Hockenheim was one of the few great circuits remaining on the calendar. A circuit with class. High speed, low downforce. A car killer. A chance to see F1 cars at full tilt for a good part of the lap. F1 as it should be. Well, say goodnight Gracie, because it’s all over.

Head to the Official Site of the Hockenheimring, and, as I did, weep. Gone are the long straights. Yes folks, we need never fear Hockenheim making another circuit pregnant because it’s been neutered. Sterilised.

Hockenheim joins the long list of once great circuits that are now an insult to their names. Silverstone, Nurburgring… Hockenheim now joins them in the travesty. The running joke that is Formula One. The cream of the worlds best drivers, racing the most technologically advanced cars in the world, round little more than a glorified parking lot.

I am so sick of this constant butchery of F1. Of course I would be considered cynical if I mentioned that maybe, just maybe, Michael Schumacher’s lack of success at his home race had anything to do with this. Of course he didn’t. After all, it’s not like he had a say in the redesigned Nurburgring or, for example, designed a chicane to suit his driving style. No, it was would be wrong of me to conclude that this butchery of Hockenheim is in part caused by Michael Schumacher’s inability to nurse his car around a circuit that is a notorious car killer where only those drivers who can caress the car survive.

The fact is, this is yet another a long line of bullshit decisions to make Formula One lose any kind of distinction. CART race around ovals, and slowly but surely F1 is racing around circuits that are interchangeable. “Where are we this week?” “I don’t remember. They all look the same.”

Take your Magny Cours. Take your Hungaroring. Take your Silverstone. Take them all and burn them. Destroy them. Do as one gentleman did a few years ago in Argentina and take a bulldozer to the bastards. If this is where F1 is headed, to hell with the sport. Gone are the days of fantastic circuits like the original Silverstone, the unbutchered Lesmo’s at Monza, and now the full glory that is Hockeheim. Instead they want to put the drivers in playpens that all look alike. It’s gone from a challenge to the drivers, to absolute conformity.

To hell with the FIA. To hell with Bernie Ecclestone. To hell with F1.

There will now be a period of mourning for the late lamented Hockenheim. The last remaining circuit with any originality or history on the calendar.

Since childhood I’ve been exposed to secondhand smoke. It’s painfully affected my life in many ways and has made it extremely difficult to cope and function. Fortunately, I adapted a natural living lifestyle and I’m not as bad as I used to be. Please learn how you too can help to fight this monster and hopefully save the lives of those dear to you!

When I was 10 years old, older family members smoked around me like chimneys. Smoking was still not considered deadly or anti-social. It’s a miracle I survived the exposure. My stepgrandmother (my stepmom’s mother) smoked until I was 16 then quit after I pleaded with her. After being smoke-free for a few years, she went back, then became ill with cancer. To my surprise, they actually prohibited a dear friend of theirs from smoking in their house because they were sensitive. A few years later, she was given a death sentence, began taking chemo and radiation, and then was buried, which is the normal conventional route most people take when enduring this type of illness.
During my childhood, at school and on my free time, I was consistently exposed to smoke and was even offered cigarettes by people my own age. Back then I had no idea what a horrific nightmare and epidemic cigarette smoking was and I had no idea what my future held. Almost everyday a kid or adult would try to push smoking on me like it was a hot social habit. Of course, with all the cigarette ads and commercials and buildboards pushing the poison, people weren’t empowered enough to say no to the stuff.
Around the same time, I was being exposed to my grandmother and uncle’s smoking. As a young girl, it wasn’t right or appropriate for me to raise a stink or to make them stop. In my family, everyone was neurotic, and they were in denial that anyone of them had any problems. I had to wear a smiley face and pretend everything was fine. Meanwhile, my lungs and bronchial system were being tortured and there was nothing I could do about it. I was also exposed to the smoke of people throughout the city I didn’t know and was forced to breathe smokers’ breath of passersby. The many years of exposure to smoke affected my health in a significant way, but no one wanted to acknowledge or admit there was a problem. Because I was a young girl, my elders didn’t want to even think that maybe I was being affected. It also didn’t help that younger people were treated as second class citizens, so, my voice didn’t matter anyway.
Ten years later, I’ve suffered immense losses that have caused tremendous pain and grief. A few years ago, my grandmother’s lung cancer killed her. A few years after that, her son contracted lung cancer. Then, it spread to his brain. When I was 16, my stepmother’s mother died from lung cancer. They all went the conventional medicine route, took chemo and radiation.
The only thing that is left is my painful memory. Everytime I pass someone with a cigarette or cigar, and have to breathe the smoke, I see their faces and know the pain may never leave my body or my mind. When I see the ads on TV educating people on the dangers of smoking and secondhand smoke, I feel comfort. I’m grateful to know that I’m not alone in my fight and organizations are doing everything they can to end this nightmare.
Today, I still have health problems from the secondhand smoke, but due to my vegan whole food chemical-free aware lifestyle, I’m not suffering as much as I used to or as much as I could. This is a very serious, painful issue, but nothing will change unless caring serious people like myself speak up and do what they can to make a difference. Smoking is a deadly disgusting habit and people should do everything in their power to make their loved ones kick the habit. There’s nothing sexy or empowering about smoking, and there is nothing to be admired either. I think it’s abhorrant and disgusting the way many people and the companies try to glorify this disgusting nasty habit. I don’t know how anyone can glorify such a stupid ugly habit. There’s nothing sexy or beautiful about taking a paper rolled with tobacco, lighting it, then smoking it and igniting your lungs and blood cells with carcinogens.

I know there are many reasons people smoke. The biggest reason would have to be stress. It seems like very few people in this world are fortunate enough to be stress-free, but that doesn’t mean they have to stay that way or not experience any relief. I know about stress because my life is very stressful. I live in a major city that’s been considered to be in the Top 10 of having highest rate of pollution and stress. There are things that can be done to help cope and alleviate the stress. Although I’m not a physician and am not about to make claims, I can certainly recommend natural remedies to combat discomfort. I think when people say they can’t kick the habit or don’t know what to do to stop, they don’t know where to turn and think they’ve run out of options.
My husband and I use 100% natural organic essential oils for everyday health concerns. We also use them to smell nice and energize.
In today’s day and age, with so many methods and modalities of healing and health maintenance, it is awful that people still feel so succumbed to the nasty habit. I wish I had been strong enough to get my grandmother and uncle to stop. Maybe we’d have a few more years together.

How can you tell if you’re anemic? Anemia is an important health concern for teens, and can affect the quality of life in your thirties on up. Take care of yourself over the long-term. Here you have find some signs.

Fatigue and dizziness are becoming more common among teens. These are the most common symptoms of anemia.

Anemia means you have too little hemoglobin, the oxygen carrying molecules, in your blood. Paleness is not a reliable sign of anemia, because mild anemia does not change skin color. Reliable signs are sore tongue and corners of the mouth, and dry, brittle thin nails, in addition to symptoms already mentioned.

Most cases of teenage anemia are caused by iron deficiency. Iron-deficiency anemia is triggered by the need for extra hemoglobin due to rapid growth or blood loss, such as menstruation, bleeding in your digestive tract (such as an ulcer) or untreated hemorrhoids. Without enough iron, your body can’t make enough hemoglobin, so you start to get frequent bouts of dizziness and constant fatigue.

Females lose iron during menstruation, so they need proportionately more iron-containing foods than men. Start enhancing your meal with liver, lean red meat, fish, egg yolks, dried fruits, soy products and blackstrap molasses. All these contain plenty of iron, copper, some vitamin C and/or folic acid. It’s also important not to limit your diet changes to these iron-rich foods. Add beans, peas, nuts, seeds and green leafy vegetables to the mix. Try to stay away from spinach and rhubarb stems, though. Spinach is green , but it contains oxalic acid, which reduces iron absorption.

Copper helps in iron absorption, so include egg yolks, cheese, seafood, wholegrains, apricots, cherries, and dried figs in your breakfast and as snacks.

Vitamin C also helps in iron absorption, so have a glass of orange juice with your meals to provide the necessary nutrient and the antioxidant properties to boot. Whole grains also contain iron, but they contant phytates. These compounds slow down iron absorptions, so eat whole grains separately from other iron-rich foods.

An additional thought, as always, is to avoid or limit the amount of tea, coffee, cocoa, colas and alcohol during mealtimes. The tannins in these drinks block iron absorption from food. More severe symptoms of anemia include breathlessness, chest pain and heart palpitations; these mean its time to seek medical help.

Anger is an umbrella, shielding you from deeper, unexpressed feelings. Your anger is a key to finding out who and what is important to you. Anger is an intimate emotion.

Many of us grew up with clear lessons about anger: Getting angry is wrong, unholy, and makes others not like us. Grown-ups got mad if we got angry. We learned a message: Anger is bad.

I have a new message for you: Anger is natural. It has a purpose, and we are not powerless in its presence. Anger is not a four letter word.

Your anger is a normal, primary emotion like happiness and fear. As with all emotions, anger is a neural and chemical reaction pattern which is biologically programmed into your brain. As an emotion, anger is involuntary and exists in your unconscious.

When you encounter any information which is perceived as a threat to the functioning of your system, your emotional anger is triggered. The information source can be sensory-based such as a sound, sight, or scent; as well as, from memory and imagination. The trigger may be, a touch, a taste, a word, a gesture or an image from your past. What induces your anger is unique to you and your history.

This triggered anger enters your consciousness. For the first time you experience the emotion of anger. The form is in physical feelings and sensations. You feel the anger in your body.

At this stage, anger has both a physical and a psychological component. Physically, the brain receives the signals from your body and interprets them as danger warnings. It directs your body to begin an automatic stress-reaction process called “fight or flight.” There is no interpretation or judgment. Your sympathetic autonomic system simply reacts to the brain’s command and prepares for whatever defense is necessary to keep you safe.

At the psychological level anger is not a series of automatic reactions. You have choices about the way you relate to your anger. You can examine, analyze, change, and modify the beliefs, perceptions, patterns, assumptions, and behaviors which you associate with your anger. You can decide how, if, and to whom you express your anger. This is your place of power. From here, you can take charge and manage your anger.

The first step is learning to recognize your anger. You can learn how, when, and where your body collects your anger information. Your anger is not only a message for survival; it is, also, a message about what you value and do not want to lose.

Often feelings of anger are an umbrella shielding you from deeper, unexpressed feelings. These feelings can teach you more about yourself. They can help you make sense of your internal and external world.

If you chose to ignore, deny, or stuff your anger and its truth, it will not simply go away. The memories will wait for you. They will ferment and multiply into more intense conditions called hostility and rage.

Hostility and rage are more intense and allow fewer choices. They silently take charge. At some time, they will either explode in irrational ways or numb you to all your other feelings. The full spectrum of these unattended feelings involve verbal and physical violence, road rage, abuse of self and others, addictive patterns, guilt, and depression.

The good news is that by understanding the physical and psychological components of your anger process, you can prevent toxic anger. Anger can be simple. Anger can help you create and maintain greater balance and better health in your life.

Here are three ideas about managing your anger:

1. (1) When you breathe, exhale very slowly. The exhilation tells your body that you are safe.
2. (2) When your phone rings, breathe slowly. Answer on the third ring. You may feel less rushed when you speak.
3. (3) When you are sitting in traffic, breathe slowly and remember who and what you treasure in your life.

As you practice managing your anger, time can be your friend. Take time to know your feelings. Take time to explore your creative range of options. Take time to chose an action which reflects your highest principles and purpose. Then take time to experience more peace in your life. Entertain the possibility of change!

1/4 tsp Salt

1/8 tsp Pepper

5 cloves Garlic, sliced

1/2 lg head Cabbage, shredded

In a blender mix mayonnaise, vinegar, water, salt, pepper, celery seed and sliced garlic. Blend until garlic is chopped fine. Set aside. Shred cabbage, using grater or knife. Pour dressing over cabbage and chill.

Curry Glazed Chicken Breast

Marinade:

1/2 cup Peach Jam

1 Tbsp Dijon Mustard

1/3 cup Onion, finely diced

1/4 tsp Salt

4 cloves Garlic, pressed

1 Tbsp Curry Powder

Pinch Cayenne

6 Chicken Breasts, boneless

Remove skin from chicken breasts and trim off all fat. Lay - in one layer - meat side down in a greased Pyrex baking dish. Make marinade by heating briefly all the marinade ingredients, stirring to mix well. When the jam is melted, then take off heat and cool. When marinade is thoroughly cool, pour over the chicken breasts, cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.

Turn meat over and brush with marinade. Then cover the pan with foil and bake in 350-degree oven for 15 minutes. Remove the cover, baste the breasts again and bake - uncovered - until the top is nicely glazed and lightly browned - about 15 more minutes, depending upon the thickness of the breasts.

Roasted Garlic Pasta

3 cups Chicken Broth

6 heads Garlic, pealed

3/4 pound Linguine

1/2 to 1 tsp Red Pepper flakes

Salt and Pepper to taste

Preheat the oven to 250 F. In a 9 x 12 inch baking dish, combine 1 1/2 cups chicken broth and the pealed whole garlic cloves. Roast, uncovered, tossing every 10 to 15 minutes, until golden brown, set aside.

In a large saucepan, cook the pasta in boiling water over high heat for 8 to 12 minutes, until al dente. Drain, reserving 3/4 cup of the cooking water. Return to the saucepan, cover and keep warm over low heat.

In a large skillet, heat the remaining 1 1/2 cups broth and the oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and pepper flakes, stir and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until garlic turns golden brown but not brown.

Because everyone occasionally incurs small injuries, it’s a good idea to put together a First Aid Kit in a can, which is simple to do, a quick task and convenient. Treating a minor wound quickly instead of waiting, will allow it to begin to heal sooner. A small investment of time and money will allow you to make a first aid kit that will easily fit in your handbag, briefcase, or vehicle. The amount of times this small kit will be needed by either you or a friend will surprise you.

When you choose a container for your kit, make sure that you pick one that’s durable. For my container, I employed a band-aid tin. This has been successful without adding any additional cost. It should be easy to fill your kit because the drug store offers many things suitable for supplying your kit.

Adhesive bandages—It’s a good idea to pack stick-on bandages and make sure you include different sizes. Butterfly-style adhesive bandages are also a good choice to have on hand. I would suggest keeping the kit stocked with five each of three different sized bandages and also three butterfly bandages. Cloth rather than plastic bandages are preferable. I think they stick better, even though I’ve been carrying them around in my handbag forever. Having a variety of different bandage sizes will make it easier to cover a wound, whether you need just one or several to cover a larger injury.

Anti-bacterial cream—There are several small sizes of anti-bacterial creams available, including sample sizes, that will fit neatly into your kit. There are single use sizes available. Protection will be given from infection during the use of the cream, while the healing is beginning.

Wet wipes—Make sure to include individual, single use wet wipes available at your pharmacy. These wipes are available with anti-bacterial cream already in them. These will be necessary for cleaning the wound. Do this by gently cleaning the wound as much as possible before applying the anti-bacterial cream.

Pain relievers—You can keep a small plastic container in the kit filled with a pain reliever, that can be refilled after it’s used. Though small, single use packets are available and convenient, it is more economical to have a larger, cheaper size available in which to refill the small containers.

Optional items—If there is any room left in the container, it’s a good idea to fill this space with any medical or first aid items specific to your family’s health care needs. Antacids, allergy medication, eye drops, tweezers, and a small scissors are also very good additions to your kit.

Once filled, the kit in a can should be stored in an easy to locate place in your luggage. Putting this kind of first aid kit together is good practice for older children.

Make an extra kit and add some decoration, and it will make an inexpensive and useful gift for family member, friend, coworker, or your child’s teacher. Plus, who knows when you might have the chance to “be ready”!

Since the number one thing couples argue about is money, it makes sense to talk about it before the fighting starts. It’s important to know how each of you think about and spend your money, and whether you are in agreement about how the household expenses should be handled.

There are two basic money personalities: spender and saver. The spender usually enjoys shopping and may not really pay attention to how much he or she spends. He may amass huge amounts of credit card debt without realizing how high it is getting.

The saver is usually cautious. He or she puts money away for a “rainy day.” She probably has a budget and sticks to it. She may have money for savings and investments taken right out of her check or bank account so that she isn’t tempted to use the money for something else.

Sit down with your partner and try to figure out which description most closely fits each of you. Then consider how each of you might react to one another’s way of handling money. Here are some typical scenarios.

If both of you are spenders, you may not think about how much you are spending until you see the balances on your credit cards rise to astonishing heights. Unfortunately, high credit card debts are often difficult to pay off and may lead to huge arguments, especially once you reach your limit and can no longer charge. Also, if you have too many credit card payments, it can put a strain on your relationship both emotionally and financially if either of you lose work for even a short period of time.

If one of you is a spender and the other a saver, the saver may question many of the spender’s purchases, pointing out that they are either unnecessary or over-priced. On the other side, the spender may want to spend money that the saver has tucked away. Often, the saver needs this money to feel secure, so being pressured to spend it on something she doesn’t feel is necessary can be very stressful for her.

If both of you are savers, you probably have a comfortable stash set aside in case of emergency, and you don’t touch it. You are probably both very frugal and careful with your money. However, you may both have a tendency to be over-critical of one another’s purchases.

After you determine what type of money personality you have and recognize the areas that are most likely to cause problems for you in the future, try to come up with a plan to handle those areas. For example, you might want to set a certain amount of money that each partner is allowed to spend without being having to answer to the other or open separate accounts for each of you, along with a joint account for household expenses.

Be open with your partner about how you handle your money and how you feel about the way he or she handles it, but without being confrontational. If you work together to try to find a solution when difficulties arise rather than resorting to arguments, you may find after awhile that money is no longer a major source of stress for your relationship.
