What Makes a sport extreme? Is it danger? Thrills? Gear? The name?

What makes a sport into an extreme sport? Do risk, thrills, and a name add up to make something into an extreme sport?

None of these make a sport extreme, you can ski or you can extreme ski. The key to extreme is in the limits. When you push your own limits, when you do something you have never done before, then you are being extreme. Everyone has different limits, if you are willing to test your boundaries and go beyond you limits, then extreme sports are for you.

Almost any sport can become an extreme sport, but there is more to it than simply making a sport more dangerous. Always wear the correct saftey gear for your chosen sport, there is nothing cool about killing or badly injuring yourself because you wouldn’t wear your gear.

To make your sport extreme, first learn all of the basics, read books, interviews, watch events, or take lessons.

Now that you know where to start (you can skate well, ride a bike, stay on a board) you can begin to go extreme. Find your limits, how fast can you go, what tricks can you do? You need to know where your limits are before you can go past them. When you find things you can’t do, then you’ve foung a limit. The key to this part is finding where you fail.

Now keep trying until you no longer fail at that point.

Try something else (higher tougher rock, steeper hill, harder stunts).

The edge of your ability is where a sport becomes extreme.
